On the way to Abiquiu,
something died inside you
hit so hard I felt it too
I knew I was losing you
on the way to Abiquiu
Something in the light that day
everything was faded gray
the last sunlight in your eyes
everything felt like goodbye
all the deja vu’s we’ve had
finishing each other’s sentences…little things
so many mountains
And all this time, this time won’t be like that
you’re spread so thin, there’s nothing more to take
“If I don’t make it, spread me on the lake…”
On the way to Abiquiu
where the road curves through those red rocks
and you feel the dust you are…
those cliffs across the river, like a rainbow…
And all this time, this time you’re leaving nothing behind
This time you’re falling blind
and a silent rain is falling on the lake
And late at night you wake me up with tears in your eyes
and we lay there silent in the dark, side by side
while waves of thunder roll across the sky
no stars dancing on the lake tonight

Boy

When I was a boy, I had a dream, I couldn’t understand it
I dreamed I was a girl, my mother gifted me with pearls,
I didn’t want them, knocked them out of her hand…
When I was…when I was the universe, I couldn’t see a thing
the closer to the ground you get, the greater the clarity…
When I was a northern soul, the darkness didn’t bother me, now I’m like a dead man walking
knowingly with every step, approaching the end of it
I can feel my heart beat
When I was…when I was a little boy,
a little clowny boy,
Id open my mouth and make them all laugh
while wishing I was someone else
And I see Christmas trees in windows as I’m passing in the street
and radiation towers looming over everything
I get this funny feeling, it just comes over me sometimes;
that I’ve forgotten who I am
it flashes through my mind
When I was a boy, I had a dream
I couldn’t understand it.

Clarksville

Meet me at the moon tower in Clarksville,
bring whatever money you can find
Ill fill your weary head up with a beautiful dream
if you promise to fill my head too
Meet me on the corner 6th and Lamar
underneath a million twinkling stars
A few hours to kill before it’s over
Ill kiss your eyes and enjoy life
And the fog embeds the city as we’re driving home
and the streetlights go out one by one, as we try to run
with my hands tight on the steering wheel and tears in my eyes
I laugh and cry all at the same time
Meet me at the doorstep to our house
Pick whichever one you like
what’s a man without imagination?
All dried out, dead inside
a coward baby, chicken shit
you gotta take your chances, run and roll with it
no matter what you end up with…
And the fog embeds the city as we’re driving home
and the streetlights go out one by one as we try to run
with my hands tight on the steering wheel and tears in my eyes
I laugh and cry, all at the same time

Ed

Ed is standing in the parking lot,
he says: "I don't have long, I can feel the dark..."
He went with his brother to Vietnam
"Of all the kids I knew, I'm the only one left..."
he says that's gonna change real soon,
he says "Give me a couple of full moon's..."
I see him once and I see him twice,
he says "Dave, my man, I'm a fading light..."
and one day he's just bone and skin
and that's the last time Ed came in.
One day his brother's on the phone,
telling me that Ed has moved on...
Your father, in a distant youth,
looks just like you, man, just like you
he probably also got drunk and high
and laid out, looking at the sky
Sometimes when I watch the stars, I cry
it just comes over me, I don't know why...
It's just the feeling that your life runs by...

So Changed the Landscape
07:06
|
|||
So changed the landscape from right under your feet
you don’t even notice until it’s all completely
beyond recognition, and you know what else
is beyond recognition ?
Your self.
Days and nights are taking turns, new experiences, nothing learned
you know love and you know pain/you know sunshine and you know rain
Here’s a way to find those sounds: put your ear against the ground
here’s a way to take control; allt det gamla spelar ingen roll
So changed the landscape, I know what you mean
we’re not the same people we’ve been
Every sunset holds a magic spell, you have to live, you have to tell
All the people that you’ve met, they’ll remember, sure, then they’ll forget
Sometimes when you hit the ground, you set roots and you grow strong
You adapt and you go on
But is there a place you call home?
Ta mig dit någon gang.
Is Paula alive still? And what about Dave?
And Frank, did he make it, or did he die that night
underneath the overpass of 183,
15 minutes going north, down the street from me…
This is nothing you should let go; keep it intact, let it grow!
All those people come and gone
Linda, Mia/Malin, Maria
David and David and Daniel
Paula, Dave/Frank and Ed
Susan, Michael, Robin, Penny
Lisa, Jenny
Kayrene and Jerrel/Mahmoud and Pablo
Mark and Katie
Asha, Laura
Christian and Susan
Lill and Sara
Langt bort, sa nara…

Long ago I was a star in the distance,
a light among others
a faint breath
a violent release…
long ago, I still thought it would all happen
I gripped in the air,
every time disappointment
but I saw sun rise on town lake in Austin
and I’ve walked through a golden sea of Aspens
She cast her reflection like snakes on the water
she glows in the distance, she rises above it all
I see my hand as it moves, making music
It’s something so strange, I will never get used to it…
and I don’t know what’s right or wrong anymore
‘cos hiding a jew was once an illegal thing to do
so who’s gonna tell me what is false or true?
And I know this is not what you wanted…
